1500 makes my brain hurt. I don't really like it. I know I mentioned the Storm Raven to you before but 1500 might be too low to make it work. We'll see.

Before we go any further, I think you should probably read this as I think Mike does a great job of explaining exactly why the ToS format is so bad. It's more of the Jervis J "happy happy fun times" approach that comes at the problem with a great attitude but a piss poor thought process.

I think GW is doing a really great job with making their game better, but they still don't seem to be capable of getting a tournament structure right, for reasons that are entirely cultural. They start from this noble ideal of "fun competition" and then in their attempt to make it "fun" they take out all the "competition."

I'll let you read Mike's thoughts completely as I think he is spot on - but to summarize trying to make the tournament all touchy feely results in more bad feelings and worse imbalances than trying to make the tournament as competitive and fair as possible.

Moving on!

Well, let's start with the "technical" problems and then go from there.

Mephiston is not an Independent Character, and so cannot embark on the Storm Raven attached to the Death Company. You must either put him into the Storm Raven Solo (you can of course still be rocking the Dreadnought) or you put the Death Company in there. You can't have both.

Also, the Razorback is a Fast Vehicle, so it can go 18" and pop smoke if you want it to. Just something to keep in mind.

I think you are going in the right general direction - if you are going to use Storm Ravens you need to have some other armor saturation on the board, and TL//HF Razorbacks are a good choice for that, they are cheap and scary with melta inside and flamers outside.

Like Immolators on crack. I would take dozer blades though. For Heavy Flamers I think you will be driving into terrain often.

I am not convinced that the Furioso in the Drop Pod is a good idea. In fact I'm fairly certain it's not a good idea. He will be "alone and unafraid" (but perhaps he should be afraid) on the First Turn. The Librarian will have a hard time getting Blood Lance off if he's casting Wings to get into position. He's also going to be the only piece of armor in your opponent's face at first so will catch any mobile melta they have available.

I think a better use would be to have him on foot with Shield and Wings, flying along with the Razorbacks and providing them all with a 5+ cover save. That's a cool army concept.

But again we are only at 1500, so points are tight. I don't really know what kinds of threats you might see at that points level.

You could do this and keep the Raven:

Mephiston

Furioso, Librarian, Shield, Wings

Assault Squad, Meltagun, Infernus Pistol, Razorback, Dozer Blade
Assault Squad, Meltagun, Infernus Pistol, Razorback, Dozer Blade
Assault Squad, Meltagun, Infernus Pistol, Razorback, Dozer Blade
Assault Squad, Meltagun, Infernus Pistol, Razorback, Dozer Blade

Storm Raven (whatever fixin's you want)
Predator, Lascannon Sponsons
Predator, Lascannon Sponsons

8 vehicles in 1500 is probably ok. The Storm Raven is still going to have a massive bullseye on it. At least you have some suppressive fire in the form of the Predators.

I think we can probably do better than this though. I think the Storm Raven is probably just too expensive at 1500.

Mephiston

Techmarine, Jump Pack, Combimelta
Techmarine, Jump Pack, Combimelta

Assault Squad, Meltagun, Infernus Pistol, Razorback (TL/HF), Dozer Blade
Assault Squad, Meltagun, Infernus Pistol, Razorback (TL/HF), Dozer Blade
Assault Squad, Meltagun, Razorback (TL/HF), Dozer Blade
Assault Squad, Meltagun, Razorback (TL/HF), Dozer Blade

Baal Predator, Heavy Bolter Sponsons
Baal Predator, Heavy Bolter Sponsons

Predator, Lascannon Sponsons
Predator, Lascannon Sponsons

That's 1500 on the nose.

This is a pretty classic Blood Angels style mech list. It's got all the tools you need - reliable deep strike melta, anti-infantry shooting, anti-mech suppression, a hood, and a nasty counter-assault element in Mephiston. He can keep us with the rest of your force - just keep him hidden behind vehicles so he doesn't get zapped, and then pop him forward at an opportune moment to clean house.

There really isn't a problem that Mephiston can't solve in CC, but don't just banzai charge him in - keep him as a strong counterpunch once you are heavily engaged.

Anyways, those are a few suggestions, I'm sure the readership includes some Blood Angels players and maybe even some that regularly play at 1500. Are we way off base? Getting close?
